Step-By-Step

How It Works

Getting your taxes done doesn't have to be stressful. Here's what to expect once you click Get Started and choose to work with me:

Step 1: Review & Sign the Engagement Letter/Proposal
You'll first need to electronically sign our engagement letter, which is simply a document explaining what services I'll provide, how we'll work together, the cost for preparing your return.
Step 2: Answer Questions and Upload Your Information
Complete your tax organizer and upload your documents securely right there within the organizer. (You can save your work and return to it if you're short on time.)
Step 3: Tax Preparation & Review
I'll prepare your tax return and then review it with you so you understand what will be filed and feel confident about the final numbers and what happens next.
Step 4: Approve & File
Once you're ready, you'll pay the tax preparation fee and sign Form 8879 to authorize me to e-file your return. Upon receipt of payment and signed form, I will e-file your return and let you know when it gets accepted.
Step 5: Access Your Return
You'll receive digital copies of your filed return, available anytime in the secure client portal.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and not everything on this list may be applicable to your situation. As you go through your tax organizer, you will be prompted for the relevant documents.

  • Drivers License (for each taxpayer)

  • 1099-B (investment or stock sales)

  • 1099-R (retirement income)

  • Documentation for rental or other income

Self-Employed/Business (if applicable)

  • Income and expense summaries

  • Mileage logs

  • Business use of home information

  • 1099s received or issued

Deductions & Credits

  • Mortgage interest (Form 1098)

  • Property tax statements

  • Charitable contribution receipts

  • Childcare expenses (Qualified Co letter or SSN)

  • Education expenses (Form 1098-T, student loan interest)

  • Medical expenses (if significant)

  • Rent Paid - residents of CA, IN, MA, MI, MN, NJ, WI - total paid

Other Common Items

  • Health insurance forms (1095-A/B/C, if applicable)

  • Estimated tax payments made

  • Notice or letters from the IRS or state tax agencies
